Hi it’s October in San Antonio. It has finally cooled down and it is a great month to film. We have a had an unusual amount of rain this month, but it is better than drought!
This month we are wrapping up a project with the San Antonio VA. The project was about how the VA has reduced the amount of surgeries with Veterans thanks to Dr. Lance Spacek (A sports physician). Dr Spacek and personal trainer Dr. Danny Pasquier brought up how they work with Veterans with injections, bracing, sonograms and several different exercise first before considering surgery. We also interviewed a Veteran who was relieved that he was able to avoid being operated on and is able to continue his active lifestyle.
We also have finished a few projects for SAHA (San Antonio Housing Authority). One of the videos was about SMARTI. This device was created to help people in the Cassiano housing district (picture). Most of the families that live here average 9,000 dollars a year in income. Because of this, they lack essential such as internet. Without internet access, these families can’t make doctor appointments, do homework, or apply for jobs from their house. Many families have to take a bus to the library where there is often a long wait to use the computers there. . 
SMARTI is a solar powered wifi adaptor that puts out a free signal for the residents of the Cassiano neighborhood. It was designed by the SAHA team to try to win a 100,000 grant. After a few rounds with over 100 companies competing for the grant, SAHA won the first prize. This is great and I hope that it will decrease poverty and give the residents more opportunities for success. It’s been a great month so far for Video production in San Antonio for DEKO 37.
